Our Story

Welcome to Homespun By Betty

— where jam isn’t just a spread, it’s a story. We craft small-batch, boozy preserves made with local North Carolina fruit, zero fillers, and a whole lot of heart.

About Homespun By Betty
From Outer Banks Roots to Jam Kitchen

I’m Betty Williams. I grew up in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where family meals and fresh fruit were everyday magic. Cooking was always in my bones, but life took me down unexpected paths. After 17 years working as a 911 operator, I found myself facing PTSD and needing a new outlet.

My therapist suggested I try a hobby. I started home canning, simple recipes, honest fruit. I shared jars with friends and family, and the response was electric. At my very first show, I sold out — and that was the lightning bolt moment where I knew this had to grow.
Fresh, Local Fruits

Who We Are
Flavor First, Fillers Last

At Homespun By Betty, we believe jam should taste like the fruit first. That means no high-fructose corn syrup, no dyes, no fillers, no flavoring shortcuts — just real flavor, often with a spirited twist. Alcohol infusions bring extra depth; local fruit brings freshness. Every jar is honest, bold, and made with purpose.

We’re rooted in Conover, NC — shipping to all 50 states and growing our presence in the Southeast. Our dream? Expanding into more stores, seeing more people at local markets, and building a community that values flavor, quality, and joy in every bite.

So, Who Is Betty Anyway?

Betty Woodby, the Betty behind Homespun by Betty

Betty Woodby

Betty is a shout out to both my grandmothers. My maternal grandma is Betty Woodby, a woman born and raised in the Great Smoky Mountains. She worked her entire life as a homemaker. My grandfather had a huge garden where they grew tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, and string beans. I remember her showing me how to string beans and shove them into jars.
Betty Edwards, the Betty behind Homespun by Betty

Betty Edwards

My paternal grandmother, or Granny as we called her, was Betty Edwards. She loved three things: her son, cooking, and bingo. Granny ran a greasy spoon, called the Aldeco with her husband. Betty did all the cooking, and Norman ran the front of the house. After she retired, Granny spent her time driving the Church Girls all over town.
And I was named in honor of my grandmothers, and so it just felt right to pay homage to these two amazing women.
